This post is all about powerful journal prompts for goal setting during the beginning of a new month.
With the end of November approaching and the holidays nearly here (can you believe it's December in two days?!), it's time to create new monthly goals. I love starting a new month feeling focused and knowing what I'm working towards. Setting new goals for the month will help you feel focused, inspired and ready to take on the month ahead.
I've written about journal prompts for self-reflection & goal setting before and this time, I wanted to go in to more detail about goal setting for a new month. A new month holds so much opportunity for renewing goals & regaining focus if you feel like you've lost yours.
You don't have to wait until the New Year to set goals for yourself or to change something in your routine. A new month will give you that same fresh start feeling. If you have long-term goals you've already set & are working towards- you can absolutely use those for your new monthly goals. You don't have to come up with new goals every single month, especially if you're still working towards a certain goal.
Here are 9 powerful journal prompts for goal setting that will get your month started on the right foot.
1. List all of the things you are grateful for
Beginning your journal by writing down what you are grateful for starts you off in a light and positive head space. When you practice gratitude, you take a moment to think about the things you are blessed to have in your life. It's important to feel grateful and to appreciate the life you currently live.
2. What are your top 3 goals this month?
Number your top 3 goals for the month ahead. I like to choose 3 goals to keep it simple and to really hone in on my top goals. Think about what 3 things you really want to work on this month. If you have previous goals you're still working towards, you can use them! It's not about creating new goals each month, but rather staying consistent & dedicated.
3. List the steps you will take to achieve those goals
Think about the actual steps you need to take to work towards achieving those 3 goals. For example if my goal is to create consistent content each week then my step to achieving that goal could be to post 4 times a week. Make sure your steps are specific and will outline what actions you need to take to achieve your goals.
4. What do you need to prioritize this month?
What are the things in your life that will bring you closer to your goals? Those are the things you should be prioritizing this month. Whether it's working out, meditating, cooking, or spending more time outside, make sure these things truly make you feel good (long-term) and are helping you reach your goals.
5. List the things that are holding you back
It's also important to acknowledge & list the things that you'd like to focus less on in the month. Think about things that bring you further away from your goals, leave you feeling drained or no longer serve you. Acknowledge how certain things you do or habits you have make you feel. If any of them are leading you away from your goals, it's time to write them down and work on letting go of them.
6. What do you want to let go of this month?
This is a really important one and takes a bit of self-reflection. What is no longer serving you or bringing you genuine joy? It could be a relationship, a friendship, watching TV, going out to the bar, or anything you don't feel aligned with anymore.
7. List 3 things you are proud of yourself for
We rarely acknowledge and praise ourselves for all of our accomplishments and successes. However big or small you feel they may be, write down 3 things you're proud of yourself for. Give yourself credit!
8. What are your intentions for this month?
What are the intentions behind your goals and actions this month? Do you want to connect to your creative self? Maybe you're working on being a kinder person, developing patience, or finding out more about yourself.
9. Manifest your goals by writing in the present
Now that you have your goals written down, it's time to write them down in the present form. I like to do this by writing I am ... and then I write down the goal. An example could be:
I am a confident blogger who is in alignment with my true values and beliefs.
I also like to write down how I want to be feeling so that I can manifest that for myself. Writing your goals & manifestations in the present works to make you feel grateful for and in the mindset of having achieved your goals.
Those are the journal prompts for goal setting that will kickstart the month and leave you feeling focused and inspired. What are some of your journal prompts for goal setting?
