These healthy habits will help you make you feel your absolute best this summer, and guide you to prioritizing your wellness.
As Summer quickly approaches, I've begun to really lean into my late-twenties, rather than be terrified of growing older. I've worked hard to start to prioritizing my health and wellness. I've realized what a difference it makes in how I feel to stay active, prioritize my mental health and focus on my wellbeing.
My early twenties were fueled by weekly trips to the bar, constant takeout meals and never getting enough sleep. A few years ago I never thought about how different the lifestyle I wanted to have was from the one I was living.
This year, I've become completely obsessed with prioritizing my health & mental health. I feel amazing compared to how I felt a few years ago. There are so many small healthy habits you can add to your daily routine that will make you feel healthy, balanced and good in your own skin. If you're looking to feel your absolute best this summer, these habits are for you.
These are 9 healthy habits that will make you feel your best this summer.
1. Start each day with journaling & gratitude
Journaling is one of the most important habits I've incorporated into my daily routine is journaling. I start every day by filling out my five-minute journal to practice gratitude. Then, I'll do my morning journal prompts for the day.
If you're new to journaling or want to keep things simple, use these Morning Journal Prompts to ease yourself into journaling. I love these prompts because they're simple, set me up for the day and help me reflect before the day begins.
2. Find a workout you enjoy
Staying active is essential to taking care of your body, and your mental health. But, let's be honest, for some the gym just isn't it. If you don't enjoy going to the gym, find it boring or simply want something different, find a workout you enjoy. The best thing I did for myself was finding workouts I love like yoga, long walks and hiking.
If you genuinely enjoy the workout, it's so much easier to stay consistent and keep up your workout routine. Find a workout you love to do and keep it fun!

3. Cook new recipes you're excited about
Cooking the same meals over and over again each week eventually loses its charm. It makes cooking mundane and makes you less likely to want to cook every day. I recently started following new cooking accounts and trying new recipes outside of my comfort zone. It's made me fall in love with cooking all over again and now, every week I'm so excited to cook!

4. Spend time outside
One thing I'm doing more of with the warmer weather is spending more time outside. I work from home, so every chance I can I work from my balcony outside. If you don't work from home, try to do activities you would normally do inside, outside. You can do this with anything from journaling, reading or listening to a podcast.
Spend time in nature by moving your body, as well as by being still in nature. Hiking and yoga are perfect ways to move your body outside but, it's just as important to be still in nature. Sit in nature, be still, reflect, and take in all of the sounds & smells around you.
5. Do a social media cleanse
I finally did this the other week and my first thought was, why didn't I do this sooner?! Go through who you follow on social media and unfollow any profile that no longer makes you feel good, or is one you connect with. I also muted stories I didn't want to see to make room for other profile stories I did want to see more of.
Life is too short to worry about whether someone is going to hate you for unfollowing them off of social media. If it makes you feel better, do it for yourself! Your social media should make you feel inspired, happy, and should align with your values.
6. Take a weekly social media detox
As far as healthy habits go, this one is essential. Every week, I delete Instagram and TikTok from my phone for a day or two. I can't trust myself to just not use the apps (I know, I'm totally addicted) so I get rid of them! You'll realize how often you reach for your social media during the day. Instead of filling the moments of quiet with social media, you'll be forced to do other things.
It's so refreshing to have a break each week from social media. If you use social media for work, this might not be as easy to do. For myself, I schedule ahead so I can take my social media breaks guilt-free and feel present in the moment.
7. Get your daily steps in
Hot girl walks have taken over social media and I'm not complaining. Going for daily walks has completely transformed my mental health and my daily routine. I love putting on a good podcast and walking through the city. If you struggle to get yourself on the walk, start by motivating yourself with a reward. I would find a coffee shop that was enough steps away and reward myself with an iced coffee for walking there.
The more you walk each week, the more you'll start looking forward to it and really feeling the benefits. Walking helps you clear your mind, spend more time outside and get active.
8. Stay off your phone at least an hour before bed
You've probably heard this health tip before and although it sounds easy, it can be tough! If you find yourself reaching for your phone before bed, try replacing your phone with a new nightly activity. Instead of scrolling social media, fill in your five-minute journal, do a few nightly journal prompts, a crossword puzzle book, or read a book. Once you set this into your nightly routine, you'll forget about your phone. Leave your phone far from the bed, in another room or better yet turn it off altogether.
If you use your phone as your alarm clock, this next one's for you.
9. Use an alarm clock
I've recently swapped my phone for an actual alarm clock and I love it!! I love not having my phone by my bed and not needing it in the morning. Alarm clocks are cheap and so much better than a phone. My alarm clock wakes me up so fast, and I love always having the time on my bedside. The less uses you have for your phone, the less tempted you'll be to pull it out and check social media.
