Can you believe that we're nearly halfway through 2022? If you would have asked me where I'd have pictured myself to be with my goals at this point, I'd probably be more optimistic. If you feel like you're not where you want to be with your goals so far, you're not alone. It's inspiring setting optimistic goals for the future. It's also completely normal for life to get in the way and to experience unexpected setbacks.
After getting hit with Covid twice in 2022, I definitely experienced my share of setbacks. But, with every setback there's a hidden opportunity to star fresh and to regroup, which is exactly what I did. Instead of feeling defeated that I fell off track with my goals, I decided that things were never going to go to plan and that's okay- that's the whole point! There is still so much time left in 2022 to organize your life and get back on track! There's no right time or timeline to follow to get organized.
If you're looking for something more than a simple Sunday reset, you've come to the right place. I've come up with a list of the best ways to organize your life and get back on track.
Here is how you can organize your life and feel ready to take on your goals.
1. Organize Your Space
Having a clean, well-organized environment can entirely change the way you feel and work. I'm a firm believer that having an organized space improves productivity and it just feels so much nicer. Clean up and organize your entire workspace. Throw out anything you no longer need to declutter & create free space. You can also add a few organizers to your workspace that will help you stay organized.
2. Make Things Visible
Setting new daily habits, goals or creating a routine can be tough in the beginning. Making things that are part of your daily habits visible for you to see each day. If you see your journal by your bedside table, you're more likely to journal before bed than if it was hidden away in your office. This can work with reading, yoga, working out, and so many more habits. When these parts of your daily habits are visible, you're more likely to remember and practice them.
3. Write Your Goals Where You See Them Daily
It's one thing to write your goals down somewhere and to completely forget about them weeks later, but it's another to see your goals daily. Just like with practicing gratitude and repeating affirmations, you should repeat your goals every single day. Read them out and remind yourself what you're working towards. Eventually, you'll have them memorized and will be able to go back to them whenever you need.
4. Use a Planner
My planner is my lifesaver and it's how I've managed to stay organized instead of falling back into past habits. Don't get me wrong, I still have days where I forget to use my planner and fall off track but, I use it more times than not which has made a huge difference in my schedule & productivity. When I use my planner daily, I feel so much more on track and focused.
5. Stack Your Habits
This is a technique James Clear talks about in his book, Atomic Habits. When I first heard about stacking your habits, I was so excited to try the idea myself. It's so simple & easy to start doing in your daily routine.
Stacking habits means to take an existing habit that you have already set in your daily routine and practicing a new habit right after it. It can be something as simple as making yourself a cup of coffee every morning. After making your cup of coffee (your set habit), you'll fill out your morning journal (your new habit). Attaching your new habit to a habit that's set will help make remembering & practicing that new habit so much easier.
You don't have to remind yourself to pour yourself that cup of coffee each morning, so you won't forget to also practice your journaling right after. It takes time to stick, but it's a
6. Create Lists
Lists are simple but they are also life changing. I don't mean grocery lists or to-do lists (which are also super helpful). These are lists you may not have thought about making, but that will simplify your life. Michelle has an amazing video about the 8 lists you should create to change your life. Some of these lists can include journal topics to write about, moments that bring you joy, habits you want to work on, and so many more.
7. Write Out Your Routine
The first step to reflecting on, improving or even just setting a routine is to write it out on paper. In a notebook or planner, write out your weekly routine, or what you want your weekly routine to look like. Go through what you want to do each day, and jot down specific weekly tasks you do.
Take out anything you don't believe will serve you, and create a routine you think you can genuinely stick to. At first, your routine can be simple and include a few tasks and habits you want to repeat each week. Once you get into the swing of things, you can add more to your routine.
