Journaling is a great ritual to practice in your daily or weekly routine. It can help you find clarity on what goals you want to achieve for the future, as well as what brings you joy in the present.
Self-discovery journal prompts are some of my favourite prompts to work on. They can be fun to work through and it's always interesting asking yourself questions you don't normally think about. These are my favourite journal prompts for self discovery that I'm sure you will love too.

1. What is one of your earliest memories?
Start off your journaling session with one of your earliest memories. This will help you get into the headspace of reflecting on your past and your past memories. Your earliest memories may bring up past feelings and emotions, but they are also your core memories that have shaped who you are today.
2. How would you describe yourself?
It's not often we think about the characteristics that make up who we are, and how we truly see ourselves. For this journal prompt, I like to stick to positive attributes about myself and what I admire about myself. It can be much easier to think of the things you don't like about yourself, so instead, reflect on the positive aspects of yourself that reflect the kind of person you are.
3. What is something you regret not doing?
Think about something that you wish you did but didn't get the chance to or passed up the opportunity to do. This will help you think about what you value, and what you would still like to do or accomplish today. If there is something you want to do in your life but haven't yet, this prompt will help you find what that is.
4. What would you do differently if you had the chance?
This journal prompt will help you reflect on your past and think about any past regrets you wish you could change. I don't like to think of any decisions as regrets but, we all have moments that we wish we would have dealt with differently. With this journal prompt, you'll be able to become more self-aware about what you can change or do differently in the present day.
5. What do you love to do in your spare time?
It's important to think about what makes you feel true joy and happiness. Reflect on what you love to do in your spare time, or would do more of if you had the time. This can also be something you haven't done in a while but used to love doing. Knowing what you enjoy doing can help you get closer to bringing that back into your life.
6. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
Where would you like to be in 5 years? This could be in any part of your life including relationships, friendships, career, mental health, finances, and more. Think of what your dream life would look like in 5 years and write that down. Make sure to be specific- write down what goals you've reached in those 5 years and exactly what your life looks like.
7. Write down 3 of your top goals for the next 3 years
Goal planning and setting is important and something you want to do on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis. What large goals do you have in mind for yourself for the future 3 years? Write them out and don't be afraid to be specific.
8. What do you want to prioritize more in your life?
This is an important journal prompt that can give you more clarity on what you want to take priority in your life. Sometimes, your busy day to day can distract you from your priorities and let them take the back seat. This prompt always helps me reflect on what I want to prioritize so that I can make that an important part of my weekly routine again.
9. What are the biggest lessons you've learned in life so far?
Rather than look at things you wish you did differently as regrets - consider them to be lessons you've learned in life. Reflect on all of the tough lessons you've learned so far, and why you're thankful for having learned them.
10. Describe your perfect job
If you could have any job in the world, what would it be? Be honest! I love doing this prompt because it always helps me refocus on what I truly want for myself career wise. If there's a career you really want to go after, the first step to landing your dream job is knowing exactly what it is.
11. Within the next year, how can you improve your career?
Think about your career goals for the next year and how you can reach them. Is there anything you can do to improve your career? Is there something you've always wanted to do in your career but haven't yet? This prompt will definitely get you feeling inspired & motivated about your career!
12. List 5 things you love about yourself
It's all too easy to think about what you want to improve about yourself and your life, but it's important to take the time to think about what you already love. What are 5 things you love about yourself? This can be anything about yourself that you admire and appreciate.
13. How would those who know you describe you?
How would others who know you describe you? What words would they use? This is such a good journal prompt for self-discovery to get you thinking about how others see you. I love doing this journal prompt with a positive mindset, and thinking about how others would describe me in a positive way.
14. Write a letter to someone who has done you wrong
Letting go is an important part of healing and finding yourself. Sometimes, when you don't get closure it can be hard to move on which is what makes this such a great journal prompt idea. I do this whenever I have a hard time moving on from a situation and love how I feel afterwards!
15. List all of the things you're grateful for in your life
Practicing gratitude is an essential part of journaling and of keeping a grateful mindset. This doesn't mean you should be trying to make each situation a positive since that's not healthy either. Instead, think about what is going well for you and what you are truly grateful for in your life.
