This post is all about the ultimate Sunday self-care routine.
One of my favourite ways to spend my Sunday is by un-winding with self-care. Self-care looks different for everyone and means something different for each person. For me, my self-care Sunday routine is about doing things that feel good. That might mean spending the day in bed working on the blog in pajamas, or going for a hike in nature.
Self-care doesn't have to look pretty or fit a certain aesthetic. It's a time where you should let go of what you think something is supposed to look like, and completely disconnect & enjoy the moment.
I've come up with the ultimate Sunday self-care routine to help you feel refreshed & relaxed.. You can pick and choose things to do from this list or go through the entire list- it's entirely up to you!
1. Journal + reflect on the past week
Journaling is one of the most beneficial practices I do on a Sunday. I love going through the past week and reflecting on what happened, how I was feeling, and going through any emotions that resurface. These are the journal prompts I use for my Sunday journal:
1. List went well past week?
2. Write down what didn't go so well this week?
3. If you could, what would you change about the past week?
4. How did you feel this past week?
5. Write down your favourite top 5 moments about this week.
6. Is there anything you'd like to do differently this coming week?
7. Do you feel you worked to reach your weekly goals? Why/why not?
8. List your goals for this coming week?
9. What steps will you take to reach those goals this week?
2. Practice yoga
When I practice yoga on a Sunday night, I make it a whole routine. I light my candles, turn off the lights & put on my favourite yoga videos. Jessica Richburg has a great 30 minute de-stress yoga flow for a Sunday night. De-stressing on a Sunday through yoga will help you feel calm, refreshed & ready to take on the new week.
3. Disconnect from social media
Even if it's just for a few hours, disconnect from social media for longer than you would on any normal given day. It's so important to have a day in the week where you disconnect from your phone and feel free.
4. Go for a walk
It can be a short or long walk, but I find walks outside make me feel so good & refreshed. Plug in your headphones, listen to your favourite music & podcast and go outside for a walk. It can also be nice to disconnect and just listen to the sounds around you instead.
5. Rest
If you need rest, make time to relax. This is your day to recharge for the week ahead, so it's important to feel relaxed & rested. Take a nap, sleep for a bit, spend the day on the couch or in bed if you need it. Resting does not mean you're not being productive, so don't feel guilty!
6. Do something you enjoy
Whether that means reading a book, watching a Netflix series or spending time with your dog- do something you enjoy doing. It's important to carve out time for things you genuinely enjoy doing for no other reason than the sole purpose of doing something because you enjoy it. If it brings you joy, make time to do it!
7. Treat yourself
Treat yourself by doing something nice for yourself. This could mean something different for everyone. For me, it might mean getting my nails or hair done, getting a facial, getting my favourite snack or ordering take out. If I've had a particularly rough week, I'll go for the latter two and really treat myself.
8. Let go of guilt
If you feel guilty for taking the day for yourself- don't! Taking a day off and resting does not mean you're not being productive. In order to be productive, you need to feel rested and have the energy to keep going. In the long run, taking a day for yourself will help you be even more productive.
9. Chat with family, friends or loved ones
Call up or send a text to your family, friends or someone you love. Throughout the week, most of us are so busy that we forget to connect with the ones we love or are too on the go. I always feel so much better when I text my family just to see how they're doing, especially if I didn't have as much time to during the week. Make time to send a message of love to those closest to you.
10. Set up your schedule
This might not be for everyone, but I personally love to set up my schedule for the week ahead. When I do this on Sunday, I feel so much less stressed & ready for the week that I've already planned out.
11. Write out your weekly goals
Writing out my goals for the week ahead always leaves me feeling so motivated and inspired come Monday! It will also help you feel focused & to stay on task throughout the week. I use my weekly planner to write all of my plans & goals for the week. You can also use these amazing journal prompts for goal setting. Jot down your big & small goals for the week that you want to work towards.
12. Meditate before bed
Meditation is a great way to help you get ready for bed & to improve your sleep. One of my favourite meditations is the Ho'oponopono meditation. I love how relaxed I feel after, and how I'm able to let go during the meditation before bed.
That is my ultimate Sunday self-care routine. What are some of your favourite self-care practices?
